We served under a Regular Navy Lt. Commander, a gruff fellow with, as it turned out, a heart
of gold. He was the CO of the Disbursing Office. Needless to say, due to our being the
paymasters, people were very kind to us. This same gruff fellow had tears in his eyes - as
did we - when he bade us goodbye at the end of WWII. But I can't remember his name now
as time has caught up with me.
