About the Event:

Join Treasure Island Museum for a special screening of  an award-winning documentary with filmmaker Abby Sher.

How did woodsman and sculptor Dudley C. Carter so captivate Diego Rivera that he enshrined three Carters at the center of his Pan American Unity mural at the Golden Gate International Exposition? Was it the monumental façade Carter carved for the fair’s Shasta-Cascade Building in 1939? Or perhaps the sculptures he created with his double-bitted axe while working near Rivera during the “Art in Action” in 1940?

A career “timber cruiser” in the Pacific Northwest, Carter was also a prolific artist who created monumental sculptures and Haida-Indian inspired dwellings from cedar trees. He also captivated filmmaker Abby Sher, who will screen her award-winning documentary, Dudley Carter, which chronicles Carter’s long life as a woodsman and artist witnessing a century of change.
