About

The Golden Gate International Exposition (Treasure Island, 1939-1940) created innumerable opportunities for artists worldwide to share their creations with millions of fairgoers. Also a local affair, the GGIE drew contributions from scores of Bay Area artists. In 1939 and 1940, fairgrounds were enriched with sculpture and murals, and artists displayed their work in the fair’s galleries and juried shows. And in 1940, artists created their work before a live audience in the dynamic Art in Action arena.

Many local GGIE artists were from Marin County which then and now had a thriving arts community. The Marin Society of artists is still thriving today. This program will highlight individual and group endeavors by Marin County artists on Treasure Island.

Speaker Kambia Moezzi grew up surrounded by artists, including her father, an artist and educator. Kambia has researched artists and related events to help rekindle the spirit of art in the Marin community from the late 1920s through 1970.
