Reclaiming Treasure Island History
HELP BRING ARTIFACTS OF ITS HISTORY BACK TO THE ISLAND
The Naval History and Heritage Command Office in Washington, DC contacted us earlier this year with a remarkable offer. They offered to transfer ownership of over 300 artifacts related to the Golden Gate International Exposition from their collection to ours. These artifacts ended up deep in their archives when Naval Station Treasure Island closed in 1997.
We jumped at the opportunity, even though there is a catch. We need to raise $1,300 to cover the cost of shipping this rare collection back to Treasure Island. So, we've launched Bring These Artifacts Home, a pop-up fundraiser.
Click here to make a donation of $25, $50, or $100 and you'll be invited to the first private viewing of these once-hidden, newly-rediscovered gems.
Examples of what will be transferred to our stewardship:
primary sources, including original exhibition proposals, contracts, and reports
blueprints and maps
audio and video tapes
photographs
sheet music
postcards, stationery, and other GGIE memorabilia
unique island souvenirs, including the marquetry card table seen above
